LifeCycle Housing

In the early 2000s, the Decatur Housing Authority participated in a number of homeownership developments targeting the development of a variety of housing types to meet the lifecycle needs of people wanting to live in the city of Decatur under the City of Decatur's previous LifeCyle Housing Ordinance.

Goal:

At that time, the goal of the Authority was to expand the availability of housing for sale that meets the needs of the Decatur community. To accomplish this, the Authority, and its related non-profit, developed and sold single-family houses, townhouses, and condominiums. In most cases, a percentage of units were marketed at more affordable levels while other units were available at market rates.

Home Ownership:

The Authority developed one hundred twenty-two (122) single-family homes and townhouses since 1998. Seventeen (17) of these homes were sold at levels affordable to a variety of income levels. These developments included: Commerce Place and Commodore Square Townhouses, the Village at Oakhurst, two (2) single-family homes purchased by former public housing residents, and the Talley Street Loft Condos. Taking advantage of opportunities to develop different types of housing at different price points, the Authority succeeded in offering opportunities for people to own a home in Decatur at different points in their lifecycle.

The Housing Authority also completed a 90 unit, a four-story loft condominium development, Tally Street Lofts, with 15 units designed to be affordable. This development had all the features of other condominium developments in Atlanta, including hardwood floors, granite countertops, a fitness center, and a pool.

The Housing Authority currently does not have any units/homes for sale under the LifeCycle Program or any other DHA programs.
