WAITING LIST FAQ

 

Q. Is DHA's Section 8 waiting list open?

     A. No. DHA's Section 8 waiting list is closed and will not be opened.

 

Q. Is the Project Based Voucher (PBV) program waiting list open?

     A. No. The PBV waiting list for senior residences, Calvin Court, Decatur Christian Towers and Philips Tower is closed. The PBV waiting list was open June 21, 2022, through June 28, 2022.

 

Q. What is a senior residence?

     A. The head of household must be 62 years of age or older to live in the units.

 

Q. Where are the PBV units located?

     A. Calvin Court, 479 East Paces Ferry Road, Atlanta 30305

     Philips Tower, 218 East Trinity Place, Decatur 30030

     Decatur Christian Towers, 1483 Church Street, Decatur 30030

 

Q. What is the PBV program?

     A. Project Based Voucher assistance is attached to the unit. The unit has the assistance. If the family resides in the unit, the family has assistance. If the family moves from the unit, the family will not have assistance.

 

Q. Can anyone apply for the PBV waiting list.

     A. No. Applicants must be 62 years of age or older to live in Calvin Court, Philips Tower, and Decatur Christian Towers senior residences.

 

Q. If I am not 62 years old when I apply will my application be rejected?

     A. Yes. Applicants younger than 62 years of age will not be able to apply. 

 

Q. How will applicants be selected for the waiting list?

     A. Applicants will be placed on the waiting list by date and time of application.  All applicants will be placed on the waiting list.

 

Q. Do I need an email address?

     A. Yes. Your email address will be used to contact you about housing opportunities. You will not be eligible for housing unless you provide an email for contact with you.

 

Q. What happens to the applications of people not selected for the waiting list?

     A. Everyone who completed an application and received a confirmation number will be placed on the waiting list.

  

Q. How will I know if I am selected for the PBV waiting list?

     A. Notification of an applicant's status will be made by email utilizing a third-party company within forty-five to sixty business days. No in person confirmations will be given at the DHA office and no telephone notifications will be given.

  

Q. Does DHA have waiting list preferences?

     A. No. The PBV senior housing waiting list does not have any preferences.

 

Q. If I am selected for the waiting list, how will I know what my number is on the waiting list?

     A. Applicants can call the Waiting List phone number 470-486-7012 for their number on the PBV waiting list. No telephone confirmations will be given and no in person confirmations will be given at the DHA office.

 

Q. Is there a telephone number I can call to verify my position on the waiting list?

     A. Yes. In mid-July, applicants selected for the waiting list may call the Waiting List Line, 470-486-7012, and follow the prompts to verify their position on the waiting list. Please understand that a person's position on the waiting list can change.

 

Q. If I am selected for the waiting list, do I have to provide eligibility documentation?

    A. No. Eligibility documents are not required at this time. Eligibility documentation will be required when you are being considered for housing.

 

Q. What eligibility documents will be required?

     A. Birth certificate, social security card, photo identification, and income verification.

 

Q. If my contact information changes, should I notify DHA?

     A. Yes. You must notify DHA in writing if your email address and/or mailing address changes after your application date. Failure to notify DHA of your address change and email address change may result in your removal from the waiting list.

 

Q. When will I be considered for housing?

     A. You can only be considered for housing when a PBV unit is available, and you reach the top of the waiting list. If all PBV units are in use by families on the program, DHA cannot consider an applicant for housing.

 

Q. Will the apartment complex automatically approve me for housing?

     A. No. You must complete the apartment complex's application process. Most apartment complexes conduct criminal background and credit checks and ask for references from current or previous landlords.

 

Q. Can I be on the Section 8 and PBV waiting lists?

     A. Yes. You will not be removed from the HCV waiting list if you are selected for the PBV waiting list.

 

Q. If I accept PBV housing will I be removed from the HVC waiting list?

     A. No. You will remain on the HCV waiting list.

 

Q. If I am selected for a HCV and refuse the voucher because I am living in a PBV unit, will I be removed from the HCV waiting list?

     A. Yes.
