Walk for Peace road closers around Decatur Housing offices

We wanted to make you aware of an upcoming Peace Gathering scheduled for December 30, at 3:00 p.m. in the courtyard of the Beacon Municipal Complex.

To support the event, the Decatur Police Department will begin closing the roadways listed below at 1:00 p.m. on December 30th. The closures will remain in place until the group begins walking to their next location, which is anticipated to be after 4:30 p.m.

1. West Trinity Place will be closed between Water Street and Commerce Drive. Drivers traveling from Atlanta Avenue and 421 West Trinity Place will still be permitted to travel west on West Trinity Place.
2. Swanton Way will be closed between Ponce de Leon Place and West Trinity Place.
3. Electric Avenue will be closed between Chewning Way and West Trinity Place.

The gathering will include 19 Buddhist monks who are walking from Texas to Washington, D.C. to share a message of peace, and they have selected downtown Decatur as their Georgia stop. There is an expecation of community members to attend, along with local and state representatives.
